This has reached a stage where there is just no going back. If you take the trouble to read David Bullard's article called The ANC's "selfless strugglemobile" (just Google it), you will see an excellent analogy with the tin of sweets. This exactly what is happening. They are all climbing in to fill their pockets with as much as they can, as quickly as they can before there is nothing left. We are on a downward spiral at breakneck speed - caused by the anc, and they don't care because they have stolen enough to ensure that they never go hungry. Is this what the struggle was all about? This is never going to get any better. Even if another party were to be voted in tomorrow, how are they going to fix this mess? How will they re-instill a culture of integrity and honesty? Our head of state is now also top in the salary stakes.
After the latest 5.5% increase, President Jacob Zuma’s annual salary is now R2 622 561.
British Prime Minister David Cameron takes home only R1 843 884 annually.
French President François Hollande, whose salary was recently cut by 30%, earns just R1.8 million per year.
However, Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga can look down on Zuma and the others.
His salary of R3 544 932 is even higher than that of US President Barack Obama, who earns R3 322 080 per year.
However, Obama leads a much bigger population, so per head he actually costs his people five times less than Zuma costs us.
Local Cabinet ministers are also better off than their peers. A South African minister earns R2 006 292, a British minister gets R1 747 340 and a French one R1.2 million per year.
South African MPs now earn R889 383, British MPs get up to R844 032 and French MPs about R780 261 annually.
South African mayors reached the million mark after Zuma last week approved the salary increases proposed by the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers.
The increases also apply to judges, magistrates and traditional leaders.

I still feel vehicles should be standardized for each level of government to avoid competition among themselves as to who is driving a better vehicle. For example, top ministers should get a basic Mercedes. If they want something 'better', they should pay for it out of their own earnings and bear the extra maintenace costs seeing it is not 'standard issue'.
A vehicle is a mode of transport and very little time is spent in it. I hope the reason for this extravagence is not due to the influence of our president striving for a personal luxury aircraft.
