The girl's mother, who cannot be named to protect the child's identity, told the Johannesburg High Court on Friday about the changes her daughter went through after her ordeal.

"Before the rape the girl was described as a brave child who liked playing with other children. She also enjoyed going to school," the mother said.

But she changed drastically after she was raped by Rikhotso on December 24 last year in Ivory Park, Ekurhuleni.

"She stopped playing with boys and would even hit them. I think she wanted to do to them what had been done to her. She was scared all the time," the mother said.

As a result of being raped anally she could not control her bowels and regularly messed herself.

"She also initially didn't want to return to school, but she is better now," said the mom.

The court heard how the little girl didn't want to visit her grandmother in Ivory Park again. The mother said she has since noted some improvements in her child's demeanour. She is now playing freely with other children.
