THE National Lotteries Board has not granted funding to about 1000 struggling charity organisations this year, citing a backlog in the adjudication of requests, which has more than doubled since last year.
The lottery is another e f f e n mess created by the government. The charities should band together and go to the constitutional court to get the lottery declared unconstitutional and then they should each be allowed to run their own lottos. Report Abuse

Don't even mention that other deserving charities have had their funding cut by up to 60%.

There is no backlog, our looters are busy registering non-profit organisations so that they will put in applications for the money whilst worthy well established organisations are sidelined and left to die off together with the communities that they serve. @Pointman, you are absolutely right, the charities must litigate against the lotto and to think that they now have a draw of one kind or another 4 times a week that is a lot of money, there is no backlog collecting the money but there is a backlog distributing it...I smell a big dead rat here... Maybe I'm being naive but from my personal observation the queues of people playing LOTTO have shrunk drastically compared to when LOTTO started. My (naive) conclusion is that NLB is not making Sales as it used to thus does not have sufficient money to distribute.The frequency of guaranteed winnings is rapid, signalling desperation on the part of NLB to me In short LOTTO has failed in SA because people now realize that chances of winning are close to zero. What? 32 Billion? Really.....And yet Nebutanda had the guts to give her daughter more than 40 million rand to stage a festival in London. To those who dont know, Nebutanda is not just a professor and NLB chairperson. He is also a pastor. He must hang his head in shame. When Uthingo was running the Lotto we never this stories.
