Cops stuck with firearm licences
POLICE stations across Limpopo are swamped with hundreds of uncollected firearm licences.
Police said yesterday that 783 licences had not been collected at various police stations across the province. This includes competency certificates, new licences as well as renewed licences.
Spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Thabazimbi police station had the highest number, with 106 uncollected licences.
"Nebo police station is the second highest with 80 uncollected licences while Polokwane and Makhado stations are in third and fourth places with 41 and 40 uncollected licences respectively."
He urged all applicants to come and collect their cards.
"We have tried in vain to identify local owners of those cards. Some have relocated while others have changed their addresses," he said.
According to Mulaudzi, anyone over the age of 21 is eligible to apply for a firearm licence subject to certain conditions. "If it's a new application, one must not have a criminal record. For licence renewals, police also have the responsibility to check the applicant's background and whether the owners have safes to keep their firearms at home."

That's because this corrupt cops want people to pay unnecessary bribes for them, so people just give up on them. Some licenses take forever to process, so by the time they approved, people would have moved on with their lives without them. So Nathi Mthethwa, replace ur controversial security wall at ur house with those cards.....*just a thought*Report Abuse

The govt should not issuing firearm licences to civilians any more. Instead the govt should be issuing a decree of amnesty for people to hand in all firearmsReport Abuse
