NFP politician killed in KZN

Another NFP member has been killed in Umlazi’s T-section, bringing to 22 the number of members killed since the formation of the party, police said on Monday.

“Thamsanqa Mnyango was shot dead on Saturday at about 7.30pm,” Lt-Col Vincent Mdunge said.

“It is alleged that the deceased’s cousin heard two gunshots outside his residence and when he went outside to investigate he found Mnyango with gunshot wounds to the head.”

Mdunge said there were no witnesses to the shooting.

“His political affiliation as a [National Freedom Party] member has been confirmed through his next-of-kin,” he said.

The motive for the murder was not known at this stage. No arrests had been made.

“The recent killings emanate from political intolerance. It’s not a question of thuggery,” NFP general secretary Nhlanhla Khubisa said.

Khubisa said the party’s members had been intimidated in the past.

“We appeal to police to monitor the area until there is stability. People say they cannot sleep because they live in fear,” he said.

NFP member Mthunzi Gwala, 32, was found dead in the road with four gunshot wounds to the head at Umlazi T-section on June 14. Captain Thulani Zwane said the circumstances surrounding his death were not clear.

In February, violence broke out between NFP members and Inkatha Freedom Party supporters after NFP supporter Thandeka Cele was assaulted by a man for wearing trousers.

When the man was arrested, his friends organised a march in protest.

Two people died in the violence — Nicholas Ngcobo was shot dead and Margaret Mthethwa had a heart attack when she saw her neighbour’s house torched.

Scores of cars and houses have reportedly been damaged in the clashes. About 17 people were arrested for public violence, but were later released on bail of R500 each.

I think that is the mission of their opponent, that is what they did during the apartheid era, ANC members were killed like flies, I will never forget in 1989 eNanda. There was no life there, seeing a dead body liying on the road was a normal thing, to raise a boy upto the age 15 was very hard bcz at that u will start hearing so and so has enemies and when u ask , its political related.

KZN needs to start learning tolerating each other like other provinces, its not like NFP is in KZN only but in that province when it comes to politics they are horrible and even worse its a black men vs Black men issue.

sad enough when they discover the culprits it will be very sad when they realised senior citizens were involved. Lord have mercy
