Flying Squad cop was attacked while on patrol

A policeman sustained head injuries when he was attacked by a man with a spade at Kwa-Noxolo, in Port Elizabeth, on Friday morning, said police.

He was getting out of a patrolling Flying Squad car when an 18-year-old man, who had been in a group of people, charged towards them and began attacking vehicle with a spade, said Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg.

The policeman, who had been driving, was assaulted during the attack, she said.

Van Rensburg said the police fired several shots at the man, wounding him, and brought him under control after a struggle.

“He was arrested and taken to the Livingston Hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds,” she said.

The police officer was taken to the Greenacres Hospital for observation.

Definitely he was under the influence of drugs and he is regretting it as he lay in hospital bed.He must be charged with attempted murder and let him pay dearly for what he has done.
