Disease halts woman's life

Jul 20, 2012 | Sonia Molema | 67 comments

A RARE and debilitating disease called scleroderma has turned the life of 25-year-old Mapula Ditshwane into a hell because she is unable to sit or bend and cannot perform most daily chores and activities.

Now this is some scary stuff, born normal and then just change to this???
Shame honestly the uncle cannot cope on taking care of her, men are different when coming to this kind of stuff, there has to be one family member who is not working who can take care of her not her uncle bathong.

And le yena a tlogele go nwa bjala man.

When you see what some have to endure through life it makes us realise that the majority of our problems are really quite trivial in comparison. Don't give up hope mammy, may God bless you.

The cause of the disease is unknown:Scleroderma
....................................................................................
Doctors comeon now you can do better than this hit them books hard for our health sake

Ephraim you really are doing your best and I can only imagine but honestly Mmapula will just have to make peace with the fact that other family are just not willing to assist whether they have valid reasons or not, you cannot look after her alone and neighbours will be tired soon. So its best to use her disability grant wisely rather opt for a care home you will be cared for and you wont find any reasons to drink anymore shem. I can almost understand your reasons fro drinking I mean your only 25 no parents you feel abandoned by those you expect love from and you have this weird disease no one can find a cure for...but try harder to look after yourself dear drinking is k.illing you

"I would like to hire someone to take care of her, but her drinking habits discourage me," she said.
Ditshwane said she had resorted to alcohol to try and cope with the disease, adding that this was why she often drank her disability grant away.

I've known her since 2002 that when we became friends, and by then she had no drinking problem. The main reason she is drinking so much it is because her family neglect her everytime, she use to spend most of her time with me and other friends sometimes she'll even sleep over at my place. She is a very nice person and a lovely lady who loves life to the fullest. I respect her personality and her kindness, if only her family or relatives can give her the love and care that she deserves and stop caring for her only when she gets her social grand money. I pray for her to get help someday lonly God knows.

Keep up the good faith Mapule. Love you lots gal.

I also know this lady. i am from Klipgat and used to see her sometimes, but it is now long that i have seen her. I did not know that she is now drinking. I hope that she gets help. She is getting social grant money, that combined with monthly contributions from her relatives (who says they are always working), can get her someone to care for her.

Hope the family arrange a meeting and discuss this. They must not use her drinking problem as an excuse not to help her. It is after all a drinking PROBLEM, problems are there to be solved, so they must help her solve this one as well.

They must not fail to care for her, rather let her fail to care for herself (BY CONSUMING ALCOHOL)

"I do not want to go to a home. I want my family to give me love and care."

and you think that is a solution, has the alcohol helped you? stop drinking and you will see people will help you, don't be arogant, listen to the elders, home is not bad, you will find confort there, because there are people who suffer worse than you, they can't even drink water by themself, so please stop and think again.

Mara why people allow themselves to suffer like this so long, when Jesus is available. Jesus was bruised for our iniquities, by His stripes we are healed. He can do anything, just believe with your heart and confess with your mouth that he is Lord. Please, its so simple.

All of you who are laughing about this lady i say shame on you, i so wish you could see her face to face and listen to her dreams this lady didn't get a chance to go to school nor play with other kids. Her younger sister taught her how to read and write, if only you can see her hand writtng it is so amazing. She has tried and that person who said Mapule has a drinking problem, she is also a drunked, i remenber she use to buy her alcohol and as for the person who wrote this story i say shame on you because all you want is to publish Mapule's story you don't care about her and this is the second time you are doing this. You started by giving her story to Daily Sun now you are doing it again on Sowetan why don't you try Touching Lifes or Third Degree as you have connections to this kind of industry?

Let us not laugh about her the same thing can happen to one of your family member or your kids. No matter what bad comments you are writting about her, i know they wont even matter to her because she is a very strong lady.

@Lol-zy Its really sad espeially when there's no hope from the doctors it will be easy if they knew what they are dealing with and the thing is it can happen to anyone of us at anytime and laughing at her really is insensitive. I've come to realize that most ppl who are very sick opt to drink some says its easier to cope with pain when they are drunk its sad really but as her friend talk to her, she will just have to make peace with going to a care home atleast there will be taken care of
