Children were the centre of focus as they were showered with gifts by the stars.

Orlando Pirates captain and father of three Lucky Lekgwathi said: "This is a good experience for my teammates who don't have kids."

Reikagile Daycare Centre in Dobsonville got an exclusive makeover courtesy of the champion soccer team, who painted some parts of the centre, enhancing the colours of the children's play area and classrooms.

The centre's children received donations of toys, books and stationery.

The Pirates team members also played with and read to the children.

Generations actress Sophie Ndaba spent her day at Orlando Children's Home because she had also grown up in a home in Zimbabwe.

"This brings back memories for me," she said.

"Back then I used to wonder if anyone cared about me, would I be somebody when I left the home? I believe us supporting kids here will encourage them that they too can make it in life."

Mirriam Mazibuko, project director of the home, said the 67 minutes initiative was a good reminder for the community about their responsibility to the vulnerable kids.

Tigerbrands sponsored the children's home with breakfast for the next year and will also provide other needs once identified. - monnakgotlam@sowetan.co.za
