Johannesburg tariffs increased
Municipal tariffs in the City of Johannesburg have increased six percent with effect from July 1, the municipality said
“The new tariffs were detailed in the City’s 2012/13 budget and approved by the council,” spokesman Nthatisi Modingoane said.
Property rates were levied in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act, based on a property’s market value.
The city determined categories of properties which should be rated through its property rates policy.
Following consultation, it was proposed that the increase in property rates should not exceed the rate of inflation. Hence the increase of 6% across all categories of properties.
