This follows the recent resignation of local government and housing MEC Humphrey Mmemezi.

Mmemezi was replaced by former health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe, whose portfolio has been taken by Hope Papo.

Member of the Gauteng legislature, Nkosipendule Kolisile, has been appointed the MEC for economic development. He replaces Qedani Mahlangu, who now heads the infrastructure development department.

Mokonyane also removed infrastructure development MEC Bheki Nkosi, who will now head the Gauteng Gambling Board.

Announcing her reshuffled cabinet, Mokonyane yesterday described Mmemezi as "one of the visible MECs who was always out there working with communities".

Mmemezi has been accused of abusing a government-issued credit card and of damaging a state vehicle. He remains a member of the Gauteng legislature.

He was also accused of setting up a trade union shop steward to be fired when he was employed as a human resources official in the Mogale City Municipality before being appointed as MEC in 2010. The matter is under investigation.

Announcing his resignation last Wednesday, Mmemezi pleaded his innocence, arguing that some of the allegations against him were "patently false" and aimed at tarnishing his reputation and that of the ANC.

"Some of the expenditure items published as costs incurred by me are also false. All the allegations about my work in Mogale City are also blatantly untrue. Quite clearly, I intend to take legal steps on malicious untruths that have been published in the media," he said.

The provincial legislature's privileges and ethics standing committee last week also found Mmemezi guilty of irregular and negligent use of his official vehicle and credit card.

The committee said Mmemezi's behaviour was "unbecoming" of an MEC.

Mmemezi is ANC Gauteng's deputy secretary.

Mokonyane said Mmemezi would retain his seat in the provincial legislature. - louwp@avusa.co.za

I will advise Hope to network with Dr Dhlomo and Zweli Mkhize how they survived in this department , I know its challenging and demanding too much. Thinking you will rely on desktop reports , you are digging your own grave while young as I see you, with Dr Dhlomo they are always in the sites making sure Nurses and Drs are on their toes

Let me also extend a congratulatory message to Hope. The man has great insights but if we have to get the best out of his strength in future I think he should consider the International Relations in the National Govt. Having said that I think the good policy articulation strength he has will put him in a good stead as he drives service delivery in this critical portfolio.

Is that how to deal with corrupt officials? I saw everybody giving this man a warm hug last week, even the Premier, instead of chasing the corrupt officials empty handed, we seem to be soft on them, that make us condone corruption.Mmemezi should have bee fired long time ago and be removed from Gauteng deputy Secretary and in the Provincial legislature. We can not continue treating corruption with kids gloves, I suspect The Premier is corrupt somewhere and try to cover herself. Zuma wake up. Gauteng is one of the Big Provience and need Men and Women of integrity, trust and honest.

The Premier should reshullfe herself first, before doing so to other people. She's the most useless premier in SA. Being sued right, left and centre thus costing us millions of rands, because of her incompetent staff.
