The truth is some signatory was on leave with his bloody signature. If i were one of trainees i would go straight to the Hod to seek answers. Some of us are not afraid of the so-called authorities.

Aside from the incompetence display AGAIN by the Limpopo government I have to ask why are our doctors being trained in Cuba??
We used to have the most brilliant training facilities here - what happened to them??

Would you like to study medicine in a totally foreign language and come home to practice?
More to the point, how would you feel as the patient on the receiving end??

I think I'd rather trust the local vet!!

Our government it’s a joke, warning to all the students who still wish to go study abroad make sure U don’t rely or depend on our government for support especially the Gov Scholarships. Went to some country in Asia few years back & was very lucky to bump into some SA students studying there but I was so heartbroken after hearing about their condition & things they have to put up with. SA Gov its definitely a mess. This is not the first case & won’t be the last.

MommaC is quite right - this bungle with the air tickets (have they never heard of the Internet??) is just the beginning. Wait until they get into State hospitals where they are expected to treat thousands of critically ill patients with panando and elastoplast. No decent theatres, no linen, no decent food. One wonders who filled his pockets with this "agreement" with Cuba. What happened to our own training facilities? Would it not make sense just to send these students to universities in South Africa? Corruption, no doubt, played a huge role. I pity these students. They are set up to fail. Limpopo is a disaster. They need Helen Zille to step in there!

When buying tickets to go overseas, don't you have to pay for a return ticket? Us normal folk have to - is there a different rule for Limpopo.

If they went to the SA embassy in Cuba, how is that defined as begging for scraps? Embassies are representatives of govts abroad, solace, refuge, asylum, etc. and I fail to see how students can beg for scraps from their govt (abroad). SA taxpayers pay for embassies

LBS- Most world doctors are trained in Cuba. WHO (World Health Organisation) and Medicin Sans Frontier doctors know Cuban medical education is unrivalled, best in the world. SA is a world leader in heart surgery and nothing else

@shaharazad
I'm not sure that everyone concurs with your wholehearted support of Cuban training - 80% of potential doctors from Chile were NOT authorized to practice medicine in Chile once their traing was completed "and besides the test will now have to re-validate their degree at the University of Chile."

Candidates from SA are recruited from the poorer rural areas and are sent back there once qualified.
What type of qualification is it? Basic or specialized??

It's not like they are training the best and the brightest from what I have seen. Just people with potential and enthusiasm.

Not saying that they don't have a future or that they are not needed, but if I see a doctor, I want one whose qualifications are beyond questioning.

Limpopo must be sorted out soon. It must be micro-managed in all depts, as it seems Limpopo is grabbing the title from my province, EC. Trainee docs will turn prostitutes in Cuba due to admin bungling. Nxx..
