All northbound lanes of the M1 near the Woodmead off-ramp were closed on Monday after a man was killed and 18 others injured in an accident, Gauteng paramedics said.
ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said a taxi and car collided just after 6am.
“All the lanes had been closed for the helicopter to land on the highway. It is believed the taxi veered off the highway and down an embankment after the collision with the car.”
One man was declared dead on the scene.
Another person had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital.
“The other 17 injured who sustained various injuries were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.”

Government and Taxi people are calling on us to use public transport and this is one of many accidents, our Boys(Taxi Drivers) dont care about us, they drive like man possesed, their vehicle travel at more than 140 speed on any road, they dont care and many of them have no drivers permits to transport passengers. How are we as public suppose to know if the driver is legal, has all the requirements? right now the deseaced family wont be able to claim from RAF if the driver does not meet the requirements, Please Government Assist or we must just not use Taxis, you run to Buses, they are the same, you go to Trains, at times no electricity, what do we do? buy our cars and they charge us E=Tolling, Now Bari ke mang?Report Abuse
