THREE months ago Mxolisi Thabethe and his family celebrated when he got a job as a farmworker. He had given them hope.

Both the driver and the owner of the truck should be jailed. How can the owner asked unlicensed driver to transport workers? The Owner should provide for the deseased family or hire them. This is so heartbreaking. *teardrop*

President was shocked by the manner in which workers are transported to work place at this age in time. We were sold voetstoots by the Old man n the package is still wrapped and sealed.

Nothing should shocked anyone.

Mara_Y - Surprised the president isnt shocked by the state of taxis and busses in South Africa. Converted panelvans used as taxi's.

This is not about racsim from me its about reality , Black African lifes have been lost here , and yet the farmer is nowring in his bed , why didn`t the farmer is he was not rascist organise proper transport for his workers , would like to go to work in the back of a goods designed to carry truck , would u , just think of it for a second , is that treating people as human beings or as goods , now u tell me WakeUpSouthAfrica , transporting felolw human beings in that truck is it not racism

Flemza - Yeah, its about racism. Yours.

Lemme guess, the farmer had to buy a bus just for transportation? The workers had to walk all the way to the farm and back every day?

Meanwhile, flatbed panels are being converted into taxis, and you are very quiet in the issue. These racist taxi drivers who transport people in panelvans.

Get real dude.

Flemza - What difference would it have made if this neglegant driver decided not to stop for a train, in a truck or in a bus?

Lets point blame where its due. The driver who was driving like an idiot. Who chose not to obey the rules of the road.

Flemza

A) I have yet to see any indication of who the farm owner is
B) I very much doubt that seatbelts would make much bloody difference if there is a couple tons of train bearing down on you
C) It is ridiculous to assume that the dude who puts his workers on the back of a truck is more 'racist' than the dude who makes so many assumptions just to prove his own racial bias

From some of the other reports, it seems like the driver stalled the truck when it was on the line and couldn't get it started again. Don't know that it was his fault as much as just his k@k luck

You know I have noticed many at times how we begin to question risks people take that unfortunately led to their death after the incidents has happened.

Have you guys sat down and thought well how it feels when you have sat home looking for any kind of job and suddenly this job comes up?
You say yes to anything infact some can be witnesses to this : some start working even brfore signing their contracts. Nott bergers are choosers even worse when you are not well educated. let us be reasonable and stop making a fuss as if we dont know the truth.

There is no work out there its a dof eat dog situation, some people are graduates yet sitting at home their jobs are done by useles cousons and friends of somebody.

May their souls rest in Peace and God of all peace strengthens their families and may the Holy Spirit comfort them and give them peace.

MommaC - From some reports?

If a truck stalls on a train, and a train is approaching, it would mean that the passengers had enough time to jump out and run for it.

But if the passengers didnt have enough time to jump off and run, it would lead to consider that the driver took a big risk.

Trains tend to move quickly.
The container the workers were travelling in seems to be one of those large shipping containers which can only be opened from the outside so it would have been pretty difficult for them to run - even if they had been able to see what was coming for them in time

Lets wait and see what the final verdict is before stinging the driver up.

my sentiments but also waht MommaC explains makes sense.
its eithe he became selfish by not running to the back and open for them or he became selfish by taking an uncalculated risk of jumping while the train was aproaching closer, but I smell a Rat he is gonna rot in jail for rekless driving.

They must also check the working condition of the warning signals next to the tracks, also check the goods train and also the efforts the train driver made like blowing the horn while approaching the crossing, his familiarity with this track route and his state of the mind because he is a driver and drivers drink alcohol. By the way 85% of drivers consume alcohol.
(pilots are the drunkards of this world hence you get alcohol on board and co-pilots for the party time on board assistsnce) Eish! Ndiyafa sistlama namhlanje. Moer!

@Flemza - I live in the area. This tragedy has been a shock (and hopefully a wake-up call) to all. The irony...yes, it is a white farmer...he contracted the labour to a labour broker (a practice by white and black farmers) to a black contractor (not that white contractors do anything differently). It is just sad to see that this is turned into a race war eventhough this is common practice by white/black farmers/contractors. The white farmer employed a black contractor (something to be proud of), yet he failed to ensure the safety of his employers. This is not the responsibility of the farmer. What needs urgent attention is our labour regulations. This is not an acceptable way to transport people. People are not cattle! They deserve to be treated with dignity - like we all do.
