Netcare 911 spokesman Jeff Wicks said the truck had been carrying farm workers on the N4 when it collided with the train at a level crossing between Malelane and Hectorspruit at about 7am.

Provincial community safety department spokesman Joseph Mabuza said he could not confirm casualties until the forensic team had wrapped up their investigations.

He said the train dragged the truck for about 200 metres and there were bodies with limbs missing scattered on the ground.

“The train was a goods train and looks like it was transporting coal. The crash happened a few kilometres out of Hectorspruit,” he said.

But Mr Mabuza i dont remember of any level crossing on the N4, i mean its a National Road why a level crossing.
Otherwise may the souls of the lost people rest in peace this is not good news to start a weekend when we will all be on our ways to different places and occasions.

Oh Lord, can we just have a day day without carnage in this country. 19 lives that were most probably bread winners. The train always has the right of way and that means the truck driver did not stop.
