Protector probing RDP houses, taxis

Public Protector Thuli Madonsela began an inquiry into problems with RDP houses and the illegal conversion of panel-vans into taxis.

"Both of these systemic investigations focus on what we refer to as maladministration involving service failure," Madonsela said in Pretoria.

"A systemic investigation is supposed to get to the bottom of things so that we can reduce the number of complaints."

Madonsela was launching a process of public hearings in every province, starting July 12 and ending August 31.

The theme of the "stakeholder consultative dialogue" was "joining hands to end maladministration and ensure responsive service delivery", she said.

"RDP houses are something that has been a problem for years. RDP houses target the most vulnerable in society," Madonsela said.

She said her office received numerous complaints about RDP houses. This related to, among other things, waiting periods and irregularities.

She said she had no plans to regulate the motor industry or public transport industry.

"The Public Protector has to investigate allegations or suspicions of maladministration or improper conduct in state affairs."

Madonsela said her office was getting involved because there was an allegation of regulatory failure.

The launch would be addressed by concerned parties, who would discuss the problems with RDP houses and the regulatory gaps in the illegal conversion of panel-vans into taxis.

Government must stop this thing of building RDP houses, because they can't deliver, build Homes for pensioners, all pensinoners must stay in the homes. It is so sad to see our little brothers and sisters, who work and get paid lots of money but still get an RDP house, unmarried sisters with one child will get a house and what follow is a string of Fatherless kids. Government need to change this strategy, stop wasting money, think BIG

I feel really sorry for Thuli Madonsela. Shes' a very strong woman indeed.

With the amount of filth that has found its way into top positions via the incompetent ANC-govt, she has her work cut out for her. Its an infestation of corrupt roaches.

If its not RDP scandals, its fraud, corruption and theft of tax payers money.

Most of the systemic corruption happens right at bottom of the chain of command.
Most of the people who turn their RDP houses into cash cows by making them rental stock for housing foreigners fight for the house knowing they have no intention of using the house for their housing.
Most people who claim grants fraudulently get the grant after lying their way into a grant.
Most people would rather pay the R1500 bribe to get a driver's licence than be without

@Impela

true

but she has also investigated many high profile cases a couple of which have resulted in her receiving threats in one way or another.

The idea is for her to investigate as few cases as possible because of zero corruption, which is not the case right now is it?
