A GROUP of five suspected armed robbers thought they had made the perfect getaway except they failed to notice the diesel they had stolen dripping from a container – leading police straight to their front door

That's what happens when you have a country with failing education system, unemployment and poverty. People steal anything they lay their eyes on. Its really sad, i'm not saying it right for them to be thugs! Its a good thing they we caught.Report Abuse

It was risky what they did, never ever go to a robbery with a toy-gun better take a knife because other idiots tried to rob a KFC at Mabopane with a toy-gun and were shot dead bcause an off duty cop was at the resturant by that time!Report Abuse

"They face charges of armed robbery and theft"But they were not armed, not even an okapi.they were only carrying a plastic gun.Sowetan do you mean this young boys who carry those toy guns around also need to be charged?Get your facts right.

the officers found the attendant’s cellphone that was stolen as well as the toy gun used in the robbery.”The five men – who cannot be named until they appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court later today – face charges of armed robbery and theft

Somebody please educate me here:
If the cops found the toy gun - is it still armed robbery or just robbery??
Real-Mogwanthi
@Bra-NeatDickIts still armed robbery because they used a toy-gun as a disguise and thats what motivated the victims to cooperate!

@Flemza ans Skhumbasengwenya: Using a toygun to commit robbery is armed robbery. It is not about whether it was a gun or not but about what the perpetrator intended the toygun to be seen as, in order to achieve the planned outcome. The second part is what the victim saw which made him or her to give in to the intentions of the perpetrator. The legal test that is applied is the subjective test because it is an offence which prays on fear of the victim. This does not include situations where people know each other and are playing, like the children.Report Abuse
