A MAN drowned when he fell into a river in Zingqayi village, Butterworth, after trying to abduct a teenage girl, Eastern Cape police said
The man, in his 20s, tried to grab the 18-year-old girl, who was at the river collecting water on Tuesday, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
Residents heard the girl screaming and went to investigate.
"The suspect tried to run for dear life, (but) fell into the river and drowned."
An inquest docket had been opened.
