Third season of popular Tshisa unveils new faces
DRUGS, alcohol, suspense and glamour are to be expected in the third season of the popular SABC1 series Tshisa.
The third season launch was held on Tuesday, where surprising new characters were unveiled. There was also a sneak peek into what viewers can expect.
Returning to the screen on Friday after a four-year hiatus, the cast of Tshisa were excited to get back into the swing of things to deliver a 26-episode season.
"Tshisa is like a family," said Mbali Mlotshwa, who plays "Precious" in the series.
"I refer to everyone as my brother and sister and our producer is our mother and we call her Mama Steph."
Mxolisi Masango, 22, is one of a few new faces in the show and plays a character names "Spoke", who will be one of the new Tshisa presenters.
Masango used to be the soccer World Cup official mascot, Zakumi, but this time his name and face will be known to the viewers.
"I've had an amazing time on set and the cast and directors gave me great direction and were very welcoming," Masango said.
Executive producer and creator of the series Stephanie Pickover said she was happy that the show had been so well-received by viewers and attributed it's success a unique quality .
"There's nothing like it on TV. It has a lot of different characters that people really love and it's funny too. People don't want to be depressed," she said.
Season two of the show was filmed in 2008 and Pickover admitted to being worried about the four-year gap in between seasons.
"Our actors got older and I was very worried at some point," she said.
"We had these cliffhangers at the end of season two and then we decided to pick up this season in the present day and it was tricky, but it's working," she said.
