Carrying Khat - a plant which, when chewed, produces a sense of mild euphoria and excitement

Chewing khat leaves is popular, particularly among Somali men. Khat is a stimulant, producing a high when chewed, but its use has been linked to long-term health issues such as heart problems and mental illness. Source: http://www.sdwo.com

A drug mule has been arrested at Cape Town International Airport, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

The man, 40, was arrested on Wednesday night for carrying 99 bundles of the drug khat, with an estimated street value of R80,000, Warrant Officer November Filander said.

Khat is a plant which, when chewed, produces a sense of mild euphoria and excitement.

The Somalian arrived on a flight from Johannesburg with the drugs in his luggage, Filander said.

He was expected to appear soon in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on a charge of possession of drugs.

Why these drugs are able to pass OR Tambo in JHB?? There is someone or some people involved in drugs dealing working working for OR Tambo. This airport has first class searching and scanning facilities but drug dealers always manged to get in or out without being detected. I love Cape Town, they take no shiit !

@sabza007.
there is nothing like a first class searching and scanning facility, everything else is operated by a human being who becomes hor.ny or not allergic to money. However i agree with you the OR Tambo security is questionable. While Zuma spends a day in Kliptown such are issues which he must spend a week on.
