The six boys were arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Nwajaheni village in Nwamitwa near Letsitele on Saturday.

The girl was allegedly dragged from the street into an empty house belonging to the uncle of one of the suspects. There the suspects allegedly took turns raping the girl.

Police had initially said the suspects were aged between 15 and 17, but it emerged that one of them is actually 20.

This was revealed when they appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate's Court yesterday. The case was postponed to July 13 for further investigation.

"The oldest suspect has been incarcerated until his next court appearance while the others were taken to a place of safety in Malamulele," said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi yesterday.

Mulaudzi said two of the boys were pupils at Pretoria High School while the other three were pupils at Lwandlamuni High School in Nwamitwa.

Meanwhile, the victim suffered a double blow when a close relative passed away on Saturday night.

The victim's mother - who can not be named to protect the identity of her daughter - said the family was devastated by the two incidents.

"What happened to my daughter was a bad omen because we lost a close relative the very same day she was traumatised," said the distraught mother.

She said she wished her daughter's attackers rot in jail.

The victim said her attackers had alcohol and claimed that while one was busy raping her, the others were drinking.

Police said they would engage the relevant authorities to ensure that the tavern from where the boys bought their alcohol was permanently closed down. - frankm@sowetan.co.za

You can not blame the tarven in this instance and no one can actually blame alcohol for their wring doings. i know for a fact that one remembers everything they do when they are drunk and the only thing alcohol does is to give you courage to do the wrong the things.
Deal with these boys irrespective of their age. if it can rise to rape, then you are old enough to face the repurcations.

What a sick born-free generation we are experiencing, and it seems things r gonna keep getting worse especially with porn circulating all over their cell phones. Made worse by our poor justice that always frees all these forms of criminals. Too bad indeed!!!

poor tavern owner, the other day community attached the owner for not selling booze to under age children, now they sold to underaged and they authority will close down, what are they supposed to do now???

Sorry baby girl, you were failed by the whole village, how can they kil someone who refused to sell liqour to minors and allow the one who is wasting the life of the youth to go on destroying the them. You must move from these stupid village so that the village can be isolated from the other villages. Let them live stupit life as they wish to and they must fall under foreign countries as they pait our beuatiful Limpopo with stupidity tsonga' behaviour. They don't belong in Giyane this animals.
