Spear guard in court
A Goodman Gallery security guard accused of assaulting a man who defaced “The Spear” painting appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The matter was postponed and Paul Molesiwa from Core Tactical, a private security company, would be back in court on September 7.
Prosecutor Thabang Motloung told magistrate Nsizwa Shabangu that the postponement was to allow for further witness statements and the retaking of the complainant’s statement.
Molesiwa’s bail of R1000 was extended. He left swiftly with a colleague, and neither of them took questions.
He is charged with assaulting Louis Mabokela, who allegedly defaced artist Brett Murray’s painting of President Jacob Zuma with exposed genitals, on May 22.
Mabokela and Barend La Grange, both of whom appeared in the court on Thursday for alleged malicious damage to property, painted over Murray’s work.
That was when Molesiwa entered the fray.
A fourth man, George Moyo, was arrested the same day for allegedly spray-painting the letters “res” on the gallery’s exterior wall. He too is out on bail.

Waste of Court time, with useless cases like this. struck the case off the roll and move on. The Spear thing was a mistake and caused people to react differently.Report Abuse
