Honesty and trust count a lot especially in an industry you have to trust your driver not to steal from you due to a lack of an audit trail; I too would have fired him. Whatever he did was premeditated and his work suffered as a consequence.

Mabokela needs to go to the nearest CCMA and argue that he was unfairly dismissed. There is no 'open and shut case' in RSA. The employee always has the right to put their side of the matter in a hearing. It would appear that the employer did not have a hearing...BIG BIG mistake. The least the ANC can do for Mabokela is to help him get to the CCMA and he will either get his job back plus compensation for the time he remained unemployed. People who 'employ' have to make it their business must learn that employees in RSA have rights and those rights have to be respected.
Most of the cynical comments made by bloggers miss the point that there is as a process in how you dismiss a person. That process does not apply to big coporates only but to all EMPLOYERS and employees.
