Three drivers wounded in taxi shooting

Reported to be in a critical condition

Three taxi drivers were shot and wounded at the Windmill Park taxi rank in Boksburg, on the East Rand, on Wednesday, police said.

“The men were shot around 6am and were rushed to hospital in a critical condition,” said Captain Godfrey Maditsi.

Police believed the shooting was sparked by a conflict over routes between taxi associations in Dawn Park.

“Two taxi owners have been shot and killed in the area since the beginning of June and we suspect that the incidents might be connected,” he said.

An attempted murder docket had been opened at the Dawn Park police station.

Police were keeping watch in the area, Maditsi said.

It seems like this so -called taxi-violnce is only occurring in Mzansi of hoe? Please guys stop this battle and learn to communicate to each other and share whatever is on the plate. Its very painful to discover one of your 'own' injured in the cross-fire .

If only they stick to their agreements there will be no problem. But there is always one who steps outside the agreement for a few extra fares. These agreements make passengers suffer - there is no taxi from Halfway House to Tembisa hospital - passengers must go to Ivory Park and than take a taxi to the hospital - more time and fares. To avoid violence, the agreements must be done away with.
