'The government is failing us'
THE Free State department of cooperative governance has again failed to complete the building of 250 houses in Top Location in Springfontein.
The houses were left incomplete last year. Some have no doors, roofs or windows. Residents were told that there was no money to complete the houses.
They are among many in the province which were left incomplete because the department owes building contractors lots of money.
Earlier this year Free State MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs Olly Mlamleli confirmed her department had no money to complete construction of the houses.
Mlamleli's spokeswoman, Senne Bogatsu, had earlier promised that the houses would be completed between the current and next financial year.
Last week Sowetan published a story about incomplete houses in Bethulie, which falls under the Kopanong Municipality.
The department again said the houses could not be completed because there was no money to pay building contractors.

Some people work their butts off trying to raise a deposit to buy a house and slave for 20years paying off said house. Other people however would rather wait for free housing. Perhaps the houses should be given to folks who can commit to finishing the half built houses. Many an economist have said that the provision of free housing is unsustainable.Report Abuse

@Impela...couldn't agree with you more. The goverment should stop giving people free beez and provide an environment where people can work to pay their own bills and build their own house. Surely this people can make means ends to secure some sort of funding to complete this houses. They are almost done, its not like they will start from scratch. South African people are lazy mannn-:)Report Abuse

@Punkies...handouts (abo hewa) breed a culture of laziness. In today's publication there is a story about Tjale who grows food to share with her community. There are quite a few South Africans who are NOT waiting for some govt. grant with their hands folded.Report Abuse
