A LIMPOPO father is worried about the condition of his 13-year-old son who was allegedly hit over the head by a teacher with a board duster

SEVERE INJURY: The boy who was allegedly hit with a board duster.

The teacher is alleged to have hit the boy with the duster on May 29 at Segolokoane Secondary School in Dennilton, Limpopo.

"After seeing that my son's head was swelling up the teacher called me and told me what he had done. I did not realise the injury was so severe and told him not to worry about it," said the boy's father, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his son.

"We took him to the local clinic where we were transferred to Philadelphia Hospital. There he was operated on. My son was then transferred to the Ga-Rankuwa Hospital for further evaluation."

The boy's parents opened a case of assault against the teacher on June 6.

Limpopo police spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Ronel Otto said Eric Malatedi Mokwena, 54, was arrested.

"The information we got was that the teacher was unhappy with the way the child had done his homework and hit him with a board duster," Otto said.

Mokwena appeared in the Dennilton Magistrate's Court last week on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

People of Limpopo seem to forget that they are a part of South Africa. Corporal purnishment has long been abolished in this country. They should lay a charge of Assult with intention to grivious body harm.

I'm feeling sorry for that child as wel as his parents. I think the teacher was not intentionally harming that child. Lets hope tht parents and a teacher will reconcile to each other.
