Two ANC groups clashed in Mahikeng on Sunday before the start of the party’s provincial general council in the North West, SABC radio reports
Police had to use teargas to separate them.
The squabble apparently broke out when supporters of provincial secretary Kabelo Mataboge prevented supporters of chairman Supra Mahumapelo from entering the venue.
The provincial general council has since been delayed. This was after provincial leadership could not agree about the delegates who must attend the meeting.
Provincial Chairman Supra Mahumapelo told SABC that, the provincial executive committee, have agreed that only delegates who have been selected to the represent the province at national policy conference next week should be in attendance.
This was disputed by his deputy, China Dodovu who said all branch chair and secretaries were supposed to attend.
