Child rape 'inhumane' - ANC

Jun 18, 2012 | Sapa | 20 comments

Girl aged 5 years has been raped on three occasions since 2010

'And the angel wept'

The rape of a five-year-old Limpopo girl was troubling and "inhumane", the provincial African National Congress said on Monday.

"Children have a right to play and grow in a nurturing and secure environment. No one... has the right to violate the rights of other persons in this, nor any other manner," Limpopo ANC spokesman Makonde Mathivha said in a statement.

"We cannot continue to have these kinds of inhumane crimes being committed against children and women and any other victims of such violent, gruesome acts that strip victims of their dignity."

A man appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Friday after allegedly raping the girl last week, said Limpopo police spokesman Constable Moses Molepo.

This was the third time the Grade R pupil had been raped in Mmamatsha village, in the Ga-Molepo area, since 2010, he said.

The first rape case, in December that year, was provisionally withdrawn, pending DNA results and a social worker's report, Molepo said.

The girl was allegedly raped again last month. In this case, a 28-year-old man was arrested.

Two of the crimes happened while she was walking to school.

The one in 2010 was committed after she was left in the care of her 13-year-old aunt while her parents attended a funeral.

Mathivha said an investigation needed to be done on the case which had been withdrawn.

"The ANC Limpopo wishes to urge all community members, especially citizens directly concerned with child-care,... to work closely together with local authorities to ensure that we all put a stop to violations against all children," he said.

and it is especially inhumane that we have a department under anc regime (dept of women and children and God knows what else) which should have prevented this which should have further supported prosecution of this vile sex beast who violated a child, can you see how inhumane that is for you anc to be our gov?

This child has been failed by this government and the perpetrators of this SIN must be necklaced and their homes be burndown, these people do not need to live. They do not deserve life. ANC must be punished for all these failures, ANC failed our children in every respect, they should not be voted in unless they hang the RAPISTS.

My heart is broken, I sometimes look at my 3 year daughter and wish I could be with her 24 hours a day.Our women and children are not safe anymore anywhere in South Africa.

We demand clear answers on the charge which was provisionally withdrawn of the first rape. I read that the first rapist and the second rapist are cousins and the third one who was arrested recently is the friend of these cousins. Then the government will shout ''Don't take law into your own hands '' yet not enough punishment is meted out to perpetrators.

The president of South Africa, the firstman of the beloved country was once
accused of rape.

The poor child does not deserve this, those responsible should be hanged.
