Why must the education and future of our SA's children be left in the hands of such corrupt people ? I suppose this is one of the kinds of " delicate matters" that Angie talks about. This is just pathetic - such obvious s nepotism should have been sanctioned long ago - fire both of them immediately - they ae corrupt

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can't be serious Bhakajuju, by using her connections she has jumped the queue and possibly taken a job from someone who deserves it and has the required skill set. If she was competent then she should have competed for the position with everyone else vying for that position. It could have been your sister who was overlooked, is that fair? If this were to be standard practice you would not have a chance in he.ll as all jobs would go to well connected people.

Then there is an issue of promotions and irregular salary increases, don't you think this is a problem?

@MissBhakajuju - the reason why nepotism is against the rules of corporate governance, private and public sector, is that it will never really be possible to prove that the appointees is less deserving. I is too much of a grey area, ripe for exploitation, which is why the rule is simple - you cannot employ your own wife in such circumstances, and then nogal give her such sudden massive raises as well - can't you see that it stinks to high heaven ?

Of course they do, this happens a lot in the private sector though it is not as direct as in government. Nepotism is a function of power, whites tend to use friends and associates to place family members with and they return the favour.

Same goes with corruption, if we were to take a closer look at these overseas trips particularly who is picking the tab we would get a shock of our lives.

I do not see anything wrong here because this is a trend on the Earth Farm and I don’t see why such noise is made. This is how a society prepares its dominance over other races. It happened before and it will continue to happen.

The more money blacks make the better for the future generation.

So Seakamela hired her in 2005 as a PA by her then boyfriend and now husband, promoted her 6 months later taking her salary from R92k to to R 172k. A series of promotions followed and now she is a Deputy Director, from PA to DD in seven years, a salary from R 92k to over 400k in seven years.

Of course not, the days of bringing along a family member and ukhuluma nomlungu are gone. These days what should speak is one's qualifications, skills, experience, etc. We all should go through the job application process and have an equal shot at getting the job, when an acquaintance, family member, etc is involved then objectivity goes out of the window.

Question is who is doing the adjudication, do you think it is possible for us to be assessed fairly when it is the husband who is doing the adjudication and he will have direct access to her salary because as a married couples they are likely to share all assets and liabilities equally.

Perhaps that is the point you miss, she earns the money, puts it in a joint account and it becomes their money so there is a direct interest for the husband.

I know I did not answer your question but it is the wrong question to ask given the context.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That is exactly the problem, that you think he/she has potential when you have not looked at what is out there and if there is someone more qualified. The problem is for most it is not even about potential, it is a simple question of I know a family member needs a job, I have the power to provide this job and so you give it to the family member without even seriously considering applications from others.

If you think a family member has potential then do what whi.tes do, get a friend to give him or her a job.

But Earth Farm means corruption goes unabated and individuals buy favours instead of competing on an equal footing. There was this one guy who met me through work and when he heard what kind of unit I worked for, he pestered me to include a company he was connected to into our supplier database. I did not because it was wrong but I am sure had I wanted to we could have worked out a plan that does not come back to me at least not directly.

You go into a meeting you get a gift, no questions asked, no apology given; it is part of doing business but it is also corruption as these gifts are meant to influence decisions.

That is how it happens in the private sector especially whit.es who still have the balance of power. In one case it was rumoured one gay guy used his influence to secure appointments for his lover. I worked with the lover briefly but he did not last long, soon he was off to another position - higher position - again secured by the lover. It boils down to how one is wired. My first job was with Card Fraud, given I am an IT specialist my focus was technology used to commit fraud. I learnt of skimming devices, how they work etc back in the late 90s I even wrote a few articles and skimming only became public knowledge in the late 2000s. The concept is simple so I could have gone into card fraud and cloned cards, replicating info stored on a mag-stripe is easy provided you have access to clean unmborsed cards" or you could simple write over an existing card.

I had the opportunity, knowledge and technology to do it but because I am just not wired that way it never even crossed my mind.

I really dont think this is something that we should be arguing about.@Dzel, I cant believe you have so much energy to try to make people understand what they have already decided that they wont understand.

We should also not confuse political appointments with appointments of public servants. For public servants there are prescripts and procidures to be followed, whereas in political appointments you can just wake up and appoint your wife,girlfriend,crush,one night stand,neigbour or cousin and we wont question you. This is our tax that is used to pay her,we have every right to question her dubious promotions.

this is not the man's spaza shop!

people's subjective thinking are really a most effective killing weapon, isnt it?

@Mengie, the question here is not whether she delivers or not, not whether she is qualified or not, rather the appropriateness,ligitimacy,objectivity and conflict of interest in a husband assessing, appointing and promoting his wife in a state owned institution.
The same principle applies to Public Finance Management Act(PFMA). If a person who is going to adjudicate a tender or bid has any interest in/with any of the bidders,whether you own shares,have an extended family member or a friend who is linked to any of the bidders, it is conflict of interest,simple as that.

The same applies to a situation where a judge is prisiding in a case where his wife or any family member is a defendent, it is improper conduct or it would atleast be viewed as such.

@swona,

What post my chief? Was it advertised? What are its key performance areas.
These things were finalised in the bedroom and if you don't find anything distasteful about this, then we have even bigger problems.

What if she has those credentials and relevant experience, is she not supposed to be employed? Am I not supposed to apply for a position in a company if my relative holds a high post in that company? She was promoted in for the first time in 2005, do we have any evidence that they were dating at that time or only after she was employed? This is just a "witch hunt", some people are bitter and hungry for power out there. After all what is R454 000 for a Deputy Director compared to over a R'million in for a Municipality or a Private Company for the same Rank. There is really no story here. I think the writer is running out of Ideas.
