Dr.Motsoaledi, if you should know, the journalists of this newspaper are good at stuff like Dudu and Bafana Bafana, they should not have the liberty to discuss serious health issues.

Swetan is right, by notifying its citizens with the hidden information and the detoriating state of our hospital management. If it was not for sowetan to publish these sad tale, Mavis would have not received first priority treatment as the clinincs and hospital doctors have turned her. I totally disagree with Motsoaledi. I mean these are the things that the people of South Africa, diagnosis and not, should have knowledge of. We have the right to these things, why hide them? The lady is in this situations because the infected people who are on these drugs were never told of the possible side effects these drugs can have on their bodies. Come on minister; of all people you should know better.
When were you going to tell us. Ai fotseke man

She was told to wait as her condition was not life-threatening. The woman's breasts reached her knees

Everybody in Mzanzi seems to lost humanity. How can you say the condition of a woman with her breasts dragging on her knees is not life-threatening. Should the breasts drag on the ground for the contition to be taken serious by the so called" health officers"?

well done Sowetan once again your report facilitate most essential service to be delivered to this poor lady,

@Secretary, I think its uncomfortable for her and even painful, can you imagine walking around with massive weight on your breasts? its hard on her back and I can only imagine that this is emotionally draining.

As for Motsoeledi a true public servant the only gov minister I take time off for.

@Lindsay to be far to Dr Motsoeledi, he can't know every case pending in the health sector honestly, there are many pending cases so he has to deal with what has been reported to him and in order of priority, but it is clear to me that his heart is in the right place a breath of fresh if one has to think of his predecessors.

@Decibels in all earnest most drugs have side effects, the problem in SA (I presume) side effects are not effectively monitored and dealt with promptly which puts lives of patients to risk, I don't blame health professionals cause we all know they are under resources, but I blame the gov for failure to support this very essential dept, even yesterday we were reading that they have not paid stip end salaries of aids counselors, this behavior down right undermines fight against aids and against monitoring of side effects as in this case, our gov is a disgrace that is contributing to the preventable deaths of our ppl.

ARV's are used everywhere in the world, side affects are monitored and dealt with without causing so much hassle in the users lives as in the case of this woman and many sufferers we have not heard about, I pray that SAns will have common sense to vote out this foolish regime and save this country and the ppl of this country.

May be it is time to forget about ARV and go for beetroot, garlic and african potato as the former minister, "Dr Beetroot" suggested.

Any comment from Criselda Kananda on this one?

correct me if im wrong but this was one of the reasons why Mbeki and manto Shabalala resisted these drugs to be brought to SA , the side effects have adverse complications on other patients, we rebuked them in public calling them Dr beetroot and garlic. manje syakhala, Where is Zachie Achmat to respond to this, manto is probaly laughin sipping on gin n juice now.

This is a cash 22 situation ..to know that what is meant to support your health can bring harm to your health .
The risk is to discontinue or continue with ARV's

as Hospital chief executive Johanna More- May God have mercy upon him.

Speaking on Radio 702 yesterday, Motsoaledi condemned Sowetan for publishing the woman's plight, saying the move could frighten patients in a country carrying a huge burden of HIV/Aids.
******************************************************************************************************\
How can you condemn them.......... if they did not highlight the lady's plight you would not have intervened. So please spare us the sh!t stories.

Start at the top, the JZ to reinfornce safe s.ex messages and that showers/baby oil/sunlight dont cure..............

ARVs were tested and designed in the Lab by intellectuals and as far as I know, intellectuals are superior and never make mistakes; I am surprised we get such feedback from their products.

They publish the president’s balz but hide woman’s breasts. It’s tough

...Many women growing old have the same problem and have to suffer the aging changes..

.Lypodystrophjy is not related exclusively to ARV drugs,;other conditions such as diabetes, which is a common disease, also causes it.

On the receiving side, one can understand the painful predicament of this lady, but, in the strict sense of the word, no woman dies because the breasts drop to their knees, and BUT, BIG BUT, IF, the Health system were not in shambles, as it is, thanks to the glorious ANC et cadres, the exceptional condition of this woman would have been addressed at one of the big hospitals and managed accordingly.......Now that all the remaining services are forced to work under Third World Country or worse conditions, the scarce resources have to be directed to the most basic and urgent necessities..........aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!! BUT...... if the same would happen to a well connected female or female ANC politician, or relative of one of the members of the corrupt elite that is in power............you can all bet your lives that she would be admitted to the best private facility, under the best specialists, even overseas........niceties that are forbidden to the common mortals and morons that vote for the elite in power....ne?

Rulling party it is about time that you focus on the most pressing issues, that is, health and education instead of investing millions on new street and prison names, nobody is really gaining from that except the tenderpreuners from ANC. Please sort out the tree schools and order ARV's that would save lives.
