Career guidance at youth rally
A CAREER expo is to be held at Phagameng in Limpopo's Waterberg region at which the Young Communist League will also stage its national June 16 rally on Sunday.
Universities, FET colleges and the Sector Education and Training Authorities (Setas) will impart information to high school learners and unemployed youths.
The theme of the rally is Youth power for socialism for education, health and jobs.
YCL national secretary Buti Manamela said: "The clarion call for the youth of 1976 was the destruction of apartheid and the realisation of a free society.
"We must give meaning to that free society, ensuring that young people are educated, have healthy lifestyles and are employed," Manamela said.
He lambasted the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), saying the organisation was being questioned by most young people and "it was our responsibility to make them work".
He also bemoaned the high unemployment rate in the arable and mineral-rich Waterberg region.
"In the past many people were excluded from the economy by being removed from arable and mineral-rich land. This cannot continue," he said.
"Our people must benefit from the new city of Lephalale, which is now being developed. The benefits cannot go to the Johannesburg and London stock exchanges," he said.
SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande and Congress of South African Trade Union president Sdumo Dlamini will speak at the rally.
Meanwhile, the Azapo in Limpopo will hold its June 16 rally at Maperemisha Estate outside Polokwane tomorrow.
Azapo central committee member Veli Mbele will address the rally which will start at noon.
