This is what Thabo Mbeki was warning against. People were demanding these drugs and calling him a murderer when all he wanted was more research to be done on these drugs or better still to come up with African solutions (traditional or medical) to combat HIV AIDS.
People were quick to demand the drugs and now people have to show these side effects before we learn.
More funds needed to be channeled to research and NOT a quick foreign solution.

An HIV-positive woman developed abnormally large and stretched breasts due to the side effects of her antiretroviral (ARV) medication, according to a report in the Sowetan on Thursday.

The condition, known as lipodystrophy, was recognised through changes in fat reduction or redistribution, often in one area, leading to abnormal body shape transformations.

"In 2008, my breasts started growing rapidly and got heavy, making life difficult for me," the 29-year-old woman told the newspaper.

The woman told the newspaper that in 2009 she was supposed to go for a breast reduction but could not because she was anaemic and had a bone marrow deficiency.

Doctors treated her for the anaemia and bone marrow related complications but her lipodystrophy worsened.

HIV is a very unpredictable disease, treatment is good but can be a problem with side effects, resistance, adverse reactions and many more, it is also associated with a lot of debilitating disease like cancers and weird and rare infections, some of which do not depend on CD4 counts levels, so being on treatment does not mean you are totally in control of the disease, so JUST DON'T GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE as the only hope now is those ARVs with their negative benefits:)
