Behind the 'second transition'
THE contentious document on the second transition proposes that:
- The next 30 to 50 years should be dedicated to social and economic transformation of South Africa.
- Economic transformation should achieve rising per capita income, full employment, a Gini index target that demonstrates real and visible progress in reducing wealth and income inequalities, and visible progress in changing racial and patriarchal patterns of wealth and income.
- Social transformation must be people-centred by involving people in their own development through the public provision of a minimum package of publicly delivered transfers, goods and services.
- Providing a safety net for the most vulnerable, including providing basic rights to shelter, food security, health services, education, water and sanitation, and a social security network.
- Improving the quality of education, expanding access to early childhood education, literacy and lifelong learning opportunities.

"The next 30 to 50 years should be dedicated to social and economic transformation of South Africa"I thought when the ANC was formed in 1912, 100 yrs ago they were dedicated to social and economic transformation of South Africa, they have been in power for 19 yrs and need a further 30 to 50 yrs to reach a goal that took the boers 46 years, now apart from the 81 yrs its had to plan this transition 19 to implement they need a further 30 to 50, which means it will take them 49 to 69 yrs to implement add to that the 81 yrs of its existence "planning" makes it 130 to 150 yrs, jah this is the party to lead us to the promised land indeed.

i just hope that the toiling dispossessed masses african people would see through this stunt, this ploy, this gimmick by these few elites in the anc-alliance to reclaim legitimacy in their voracious persuit to prolong their hold onto political power and further enrich themselves at the expense of the poor masses and at the expense of the future of the country, for the next 50 years. which anc administration from mandela's time has actually delivered on its promises? zuma's govt was supposed to create a million jobs in five years, due to his peasant background, he was supposed to be most sensitive to the nation's wealth and income disparities, we all know that during his tenure, his family based at Inkandla is now the wealthiest in that village, income/wealth disparities between his family and average villagers must count as spectacular in both the speed with which it has happened and in sheer scale, and if this is not primarily due to the dispensing of political patronage then what can they possibly account for this phenomenal ride from rags to riches?from rdp, to gear, jipsa, 'new' grow path, etc. the party has a penchant of re-packaging its old, ineffectual programmes and representing them as new, progressive developments. all have failed. SA is shedding jobs consistantly since the peak in employment numbers in 2008. an average graduate today has far less chance of getting an entry level proffessional job than he had in 2000. THE PICTURE IS GETTING WORSE, NOT BETTER. education, land ownership, enterprise development, in all these crucial markers, the anc has failed. please, do not be deceived by the erudite aura of the upcoming political discussions and be duped by the so-called "second transition" suggesting the nation is on an an irreversible course on progress, its not! look at EC and Limpopo! just as much as mbeki's elitist reign failed to perform for the poor masses, zuma too has failed to live up to expectations. Einstein once said 'stupidity is doing the same thing over again and expect a different result'.
