A Port Elizabeth man’s neck was broken when the dog's leash he had draped around his neck got stuck in the wheel of his car, a family member said on Monday.

Rob Emslie, 39, had the leash around his neck as he left a restaurant with his dog.

Emslie got into his car and closed the door but he did not notice a large part of the leash was hanging outside the car, said the family member, who asked not to be named.

As he reversed, the leash got stuck in the wheel and broke his neck.

Emslie’s dog was with him at the time and drew the attention of a passer-by by jumping in and out of an open window of the car.

"The dog stayed with him the whole night and was in a frantic state the next morning."

It's unclear what's since happened to the dog.

1000 Ways to die indeed. Its a tragic incident, but I think the family must submit this story to the producers.

Shame, I wonder what happened to the dog. If the dog stayed with this man for the whole night...You want to tell us no one coming in or out of the restaurant noticed the man's position or the dog???? This is insane.

commedy of errors. What was he doing at the restaurant with the dog? What was he doing with the dog leash around his neck? Why did he forget that the leash is long and pull the whole of it inside the car? Its true when your time is up it is really up, you go whichever way. Good candidate for 1000 ways to die.

There is more to this story, how long was the leash that in got into his car wheel, at what speed did he take off? Man can not die from this, maybe he wanted to get rit of himself and he did exactly that.
