Meet the cop who spins vinyls in clubs
HIS main job is to chase criminals but Sergeant Madoda Duka also moonlights as a disc jockey.
Duka, who originally comes from Queenstown in Eastern Cape, works for public order policing in Diepkloof, Soweto.
When he takes time off from maintaining law and order he spins vinyls in nightclubs.
Known as DJ Police on the music scene, the man in blue dropped his debut house album six months ago.
He says the idea of recording his music came after a lot of persuasion from colleagues. He has since dropped a house album produced by former Boom Shaka singer Junior Sokhela.
"I have always loved music. But it actually never crossed my mind that one day I would release an album."
To prove that he is not a pushover, the police officer-turned deejay has composed most of the songs in the album. Duka says he usually plays in clubs, depending on his work schedule in the police force.
Duka is married and has three daughters.
He told Sowetan that his family was very supportive of his musical ventures.
