Conjoined twins born
A PAIR of conjoined twins have been born at the Dr Malizo Mpehle District Hospital in Tsolo, Mthatha
"The girls have a combined weight of 4kg," Eastern Cape health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said in a statement.
"They share a umbilical cord. Doctors at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital are now assessing to see if they are not sharing vital organs. They have a joined upper abdomen and chest," he said.
Kupelo said the girls might be referred to the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town.
This is the fifth set of conjoined twins born in the Transkei in the past 24 months.
