This country is a joke, why do we have to maintain this King with our tax money. Firstly he is not my king but he gets a share of my tax money. Bakwethu, R60m is a lot of money while there is service delivery protests allover the show. In KZN alone a lot of villages are without water and sanitation. Clinics are without medication and schools are without libraries, laboratories desks etc. Even KwaNongoma where his majesty stays, oSuthu, Mahhashini, eNingini etc the schools are dilapidated and the King's own subjects are living in poverty.
While commercial farmers in Mzansi are not receiving any subsidy from government, why must taxpayers pay to keep the King's farms why can't they be self sufficient? This is really unfair.
While this is happening the number of wives is increasing and we as taxpeyers have to pay. May I suggest that only those aMaZulu who still believe in the institutution of the monarchy must pay their tax to support the King.

Is it a math education problem, do you think? ,

The land was stolen by white people, they have tittle deeds etc but it is undisputed truth that the land in KZN is an inheritance of The Reigning King. When you grow up in rural areas you family will own the land under the certain kingdom. That what is happening we/they have the land under the Kingdom of the Zulu nation.

His Majesty the King is a symbol of unity for the Zulu nation. The Zulus are respected as a nation because they have a King. The Zulus are able to retain their general respect and humbleness because they have a King. The day any one decide that they should get rid of the Zulu King is the day you will see the worst bloodshed ever. So don't play with fire. The King runs agricultural and other programmes which benefit his subjects. He does not sit around and play with his spear as some ignorant nincompoops think here. The Zulu Kingdom has a reach history of bravery and that cannot be thrown away. Long live the King.

They do not even keep a separate registry for taxes coming from fuel levies, hence the big fight about e-tolls. But, if your king can get so much of our taxes, it's really time that they do start keeping it separate. Then we'll see how many people in the king's land will stay there and pay him extra taxes. Nyongoyamavenda, you use the word "we". That's what I don't understand see. "We" in KZN contribute the 2nd most in SA to the GDP, so one family can take such a large share of what "we" contribute. Again, I'd understand it if the second highest share of the budget went to ALL in KZN. I cannot understand so much money for one man. You in KZN are then no more than modern day slaves working your ar.ses off for one man's riches. I pity you. You fought slavery under the white.s, but you embrace slavery under your own kind. Makes no sense.

Nyongoyamavenda, I never said Shaka was gay. It honestly read it here on this blog, and it was written by black people. As a white, I'm constantly told that my history's portrayal of the past is wrong, that's why I'm here. To learn from the black people about how they remember the past, and how they felt about the things that happened. Now you've taught me that he had concubines. Did not one of them ever fall pregnant?

Nyongoyamavenda, what the english queen does, is none of my business. I do not pay taxes in england. If the english are silly enough to pay a queen millions a year, I say like dear old Bob, You keep your england. And I don't know what the basotho king does either, but the question is, does he get so much money from our taxes? Quite frankly, I don't really care what any king or queen does, as long as my taxes do not support their lavish lifestyles. Not before every single last poor person in this country has a decent job and a decent lifestyle. After that, they can start dishing out money to kings and queens.

The reason why Monarchs have been done away allover the world is simply because people gradually cannot afford to live in abject poverty while the king is given a blanket cheque to spend as he pleases and the poor subjects some unemployed have to pay R60m to support the King's lifestyle. I do not have a problem with the King being a symbol of Zulu nationalism (whatever that means). My problem is that symbol of Zulu nationalism cannot live like he is in heaven while the subjects are in hell. What does Zulu unity means when Zulus live in abject povety? Can Zulu unity put food on peoples plates Farms are business entities and just like any farm in the Free State, Western Cape, Limpopo etc each farm strives to create profit and is self sustaining. Why must the Kings farms be run at taxpayer's expense? Is it justifiable that the King can have as many wives as he can at taxpayer's expense while I cannot afford lobola to pay for one woman? Now I have to support all the wives, brother-in-laws of the King and the list goes on. Not acceptable.

I am shocked at your ignorance. If you understood your history you wouldn't be writing all this. You need some history and economics lessons. When white people settled in South Africa they found 'natives' on these lands. When the wars were fought, won and lost the Zulu king signed an agreement with the white settlers to use some of his land for their activities. Some of the land is now big towns and cities. The king has title to those lands hence the commercial farmers pay taxes and royalities to the king and the national government through the department of Tradiotional Affairs collects fees and taxes for the kings and chiefs. There are quite a number of kingdoms that are still recognised in South Africa. Some have shares in big businesses such as the Royal Bafokeng, Some of the business ventures in the Zulu kingdom brand include tourism, diamond products, the new Bayede wine brand.
Comments must be accompanied by facts not just waffling.

Lack of knowledge, ignorance are just the order of they day to most people here.....ncincinci, let me help a bit
Kingdoms of the current era are very different to those of a century ago. Today monarchy is about custodian for culture and language. Monarchies of today are no more rulers and they are removed from political decisions. Successful countries in the word such Sweden, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Britain, Monaco (list is endless man) still have monarchies. Their languages continue to develop and their cultures preserved. Zulu is one (if not the only) African language in South Africa (if not the whole of Africa) with a complete dictionary "Inqolobane Yesizwe". There are no English or Afrikaans influenced words in Zulu because Zulu still develops (as a language even today). The Zulu nation was the only one in South Africa with their own university (mostly focused on developing the language). just look at how many Zulu novels you can find in book-stores, look at how much has been written about Zulu history (compare that to other African languages in South Africa). Just look how much the world knows about Zulu (as a culture) - that's not accidental, but a proof of investment done in preserving the culture - you can buy a Zulu grammar or historical book just by a click of a finger - can you say that about Pedi, Tswana, venda, etc
Look at the number of huge South African business with dual listing in London - guess what, they pay tax - part of that tax end-ups where - Britain monarchy. so my fellow South Africans will prefer to pay for the English monarchy than their own. During the CODESA talks, ANC sold this story about aboloshing Kingdoms and people forget who they are...Chief Mangosuthu (who is actually the uncle of the current King) put his foot down and ensured that Zulu nation, culture, language is preserved - I thank him for that (though I voted ANC).
let me tell my fellow Africans - 100 years from now, Africans in South Africa will be Zulus and the rest. Some languages will have totally disappeared and forgotten - but Zulu will be there, why? cause the culture is preserved. go and check how many Zulu families talk English with their kids at home? very few, why - because we are proud of who we are - others see it as arrogance, why? Lack of knowledge and understanding of who they are.

@Dr Stevens, I hope you are white and English - God Bless the Queen.
10 yrs ago a friend at varsity in CTN said South African blacks are stupid (they dont know who they are and have self-hate) - I was upset, angry - truth is, he was telling the truth....I dont know how many fools here pays tax to the Queen indirectly - but the doofers dont even know...someone here says we are in a democracy and monarchy is outdated - funny enough is that the people who taught him about democracy will do everything to preserve their monarchy
simple thing: go to any actuarial exams or investments related exams such as CFA, FRM - you are shocked that firstly - the class is largely white (abt 80%) and the secondly, the africans that are in those classes - at least 50% of them are not from South Africa....all blacks South Africans are at sheebeens discussing Nationalisation - stupid people - you are all going to hell, well at least you are enjoying the trip......just like Zimbabwe, all those that are prepared for the future, will be gone....hope you can swim to get to Australia to seek refugee
