'Succession battle crippling ANC'

May 25, 2012 | Sapa | 17 comments

The ANC's obsession with succession battles is crippling its ability to deliver, Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said.

Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba

"Factionalism is slowly and seriously crippling our movement and distracting our attention from our historic mandate

"In the recent years we have become so inwardly focused that our people should be wondering if they still matter at all," Gigaba told the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) national congress in Kempton Park.

"Factionalism is slowly and seriously crippling our movement and distracting our attention from our historic mandate. We are fixated with succession battles."

Leadership squabbles were detracting the ANC from the urgent business of the day. Gigaba called for unity and discipline.

Succession debates had been dominating the media in the lead-up to the ANC's 53rd national conference in Mangaung in December.

Gigaba said militancy had always been a part of the ANC's revolutionary struggle, but it could not allow militant behaviour that was alien to the party.

"The militancy ... has always been required to enrich the struggle. We can therefore not allow opportunists and demagogues to hijack, to advocate and perpetuate alien behaviour within the movement."

This had "manifested itself in various ways including some shockingly crude, disrespectful and un-ANC remarks made in the public domain".

Prior to Gigaba taking the podium, the NUM passed a resolution to support the ANC's leadership elected in Polokwane in 2007 at Mangaung.

The NUM is a key constituent of the Congress of SA Trade Unions, which is part of the tripartite alliance, along with the ANC and the SA Communist Party.

Whic Party can we vote for? come 2014 is there anybody there who can convince us? ANC failed and continue to make stupidity of themselves. Helen is just as bad and who else? Nobody at all. I think we need to put a list of prospective Leaders and vote for the President of the country not a political party, because they will elect Zuma again and we are just tired of his lies

The ANC is a struggle party , struggle between leaders, struggle to deliver, struggle with partners, struggle with its own organs, struggle with press, struggle with integrity, struggle with reality, struggling with the people, struggling to survive, struggling with corruption, struggling with irregularities, struggling with paintings, struggling with militancy.

At last somebody sees the damage the party is inflicting on itself through the sheer selfishness of its leadership.

Factionalism is caused by populism which stem from the fact that if a certain leader is out I will not be able to retain my position. That will mean hunger for me, my friends and relatives. It is amazing to see how money, in a form of Jojo and Corruption have destroyed our Country up to this stage. Why during apartheid we used to have all this things but things were running smoothly and even lots of black people were able to work than it is at the moment. We need to check were we went wrong , I know there was no transparency back than but things were not worse as it seems to be at the moment. It was very rare to see a graduate with a degree on the street but now even those who have masters degree cannot work no more,ya mehla le mabaka di a fetoga!!

Ineptocracy - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth from diminishing numbers of producers and stuggled implementaion of additional and silly tax collection sytems
