BENEFICIARIES are misusing social grants by paying for hairdresser appointments and buying beauty products.

At some point we will have to realise that Education(Academic) is the only way to get out of poverty and to be independent,otherwise we will always falter,this social grant thing is not going to work in the long run.,

Wont it be better to stop giving this loose jezebels money? I mean Gov. can always but food parcels and other kids necessities instead of giving this useless beings hard cash as they use it selfishly and end up being preg and running to claim for grants

Why dont they introduce stamps that are redeemable for things such as, electricity, food and have policies that makes it tough for JEZEBELS to misuse this grant.

Scrap the grants and have more Skills Development programmes so that these "breeders" can be equipment and be able to sustain themselves.

.........''During this financial year the government would spend about R105-billion on grants''.................

..............................................................................................................................................
Majority of the kids receiving this grant have their biological fathers, some are even working. As a security system, these women must bring proof that their kids fathers are dead,unemployed or are very low income workers.

Another factor is that the laws of this country allow a foreigner child who is born in South Africa to be entitled to all benefits as per South African child.S people come in this country pregnant on purpose so that they can receive this grant.

@DENISE WILLIAMS
A very good story for moral degeneration of our Youth!!

''Research also found that children's propensity to engage in risky behaviour such as sex at a young age, alcohol and drug use, criminal activity and inductions into gangs, [is less] when grants are used effectively during their upbringing''. (Yes they do help big time)
...............................................................................
I agree totally with the research it is spot on. And some young girls are voluntarily getting pregnant just to get a social grant in sacrifice of their quality education that can bring them millions how foolish is that, well done Mr DENISE WILLIAMS a very good job well done!

Bathabile is one incompetent minister, how does she say grants reduce poverty and teen pregnancy while it is the main contributor?A mother gets grants for 5kids all under 18yrs, 2 daughters fall pregnant at 15 and 18, they leave home (run to social workers claiming to be abused or not having shelter) to get their own RDP houses, later they get pregnant to get more grants,they leave school without matric, who's going to employ them if people with degrees are still strugling to get jobs?.How is she(government) going to solve this one?For as long as people are getting grants corruption will not stop even if you can give them coupons they will sell them for cash and there's always a buyer.Money or not..they started something they will not finish.

This grant story is just unsustainable.

If someone gives me money, it is now mine to do with as I please, If someone gives me a gift voucher then I can still do as I please with it but only within the parameters of that voucher. Can we not look at a system similar to the old 'food stamps' instead?

We have know this abuse of social grants for donkey year. I look at the grants as a ANC govmnt's way of buying votes, expecially for the young girls who resort to having babies to get this grants and mostly drunkards who do not see the need to look for jobs.

Give them coupons instead of the cash. The department of social department should enter into an understanding/agreement with Shoprite-USAVE, Ackermans or Jet and the department of education to make this coupon initiative work.

Mara grant money aint enough to feed a kid so it means those kids are starving mos if they can afford to pay for hairdressers appointments! Taking care of a kid is costly! I wonder how they are surviving! I have to sacrifice alot of things to make sure that my child has a comfortable life.

The is a way the government can help -
They get R250 per child
The goverment must in-force that R50 must go to insurnace of the mother choose and that child can access that investment when their 18 yrs old - its not a lot but that child will have something wanting for them whether the mother likes it or not.

Agree with most of your comments except don't spread misinformation. Foreign kids born in SA are not automatically SAns and cannot claim grants.

I'm not saying some don't but if they do, it is illegal and because of corruption and bribery.

Omo T sorry to say that is the case Foreigners come into S.a and make our girls pregnant and leave them they give them drugs and then this girls are hooked they sleep around and have babies by def Foreigners then leave our girls/children and run back home these mothers are S.A citizens so they are allowed grant. These foreigners is the the big problem they eat our food take our jobs steel our girls/women and leave the rest for parents to worry about them.

Omo T, it is not misinformation. when a child is born in SA by a foreign parent the child automatically qualifies to be a South African. Read your constitution. thats why most of Zimbabweans come to SA heavily pregnant because they know they will get child grants.

@Dusc

You're taking this in a new direction. Sabza said foreigners come to give birth here to get grants. I said, that is not true. A foreign child born here is NOT automatically a SAn and if their parents claim grants it is because of bribery and corruption. It is a different case if one parent is SAn - the child has a right then.

Now to your post. For sure, there are many foreigners doing illegal things here. Many points of discussion.
1) What some foreigners do here is very, very wrong. It is up to the police etc to make sure that perpetrators are caught and punished. That should be the same even if the perpetrators are SAn.
2) SA girls do not need foreigners to give them drugs for them to sleep around. Go to any township school, they spend their days having sex, recording this on phones and posting it on the internet.This is not peculiar to SA alone.
3) Your argument that foreigners come here, eat your food, take your jobs, steal your women is an over-flogged argument and quite frankly tedious. It's as boring as when the ANC calls every white person that disagrees with them racists. As a foreigner, I did not take your job, I was offered a job for which I pay taxes every month - over taxed actually. I do not take your food, I pay for it. I do not steal your men, we like each other, we decide whether or not to have a relationship.

Doing right or wrong has nothing to do with the land you come from. It has to do with your upbringing.

Stop portraying SAn as hopeless, vulnerable victims with no brains. Stop tar-brushing foreigners as villains.

@Papadi

No, no, no.

I am a foreigner. My friend from Angola in varsity with me got married had two babies as we finished our degree. I have friends from my country who had kids here too. Not one child is SAn. They do not have IDs, they do not have passports.

I repeat. Giving birth to a child in SA by foreign parents does not guarantee SA citizenship. This is not America or Ireland.

Maybe there is a special dispensation to Zimbabweans?

Strangely enough the DA is implementing two ideas in Cape Town to battle the abuse of social grants. Making people work for the grants and food voucers instead of money.

On TV last night, I watched a woman official, take a woman's hands and place her fingerprints in the wrong place while receiving her grant. (probably only received part of it, being illiterate). The whole process was seen to be a big scam as the official was probably "granting" herself some of the money.
