@MommaC - she seems to be in control of the joint estate and we don't know how much he actually contributed to the estate. Maybe she is just paying him back his own money. Things might change after the case.

@Ann - what did Vino do - there are two sides to the the story. Must have been something quite bad for him to want to poison her.

Talk about the law being fair to all. The breed of men these days leaves little to be desired. A man needs to be a man and not a whimp of saying he has no means to support himself. Talk about being a bread winner of a home. mxxim

Sorry but there is no way you can convince me that poisoning your spouse is a legitimate way to end a marriage

@MommaC - I was not justifying his actions - which are wrong. I suspect that we are not dealing with a defenceless, blameless and innocent woman here. She has ended up with the house and estate - does not look like she is a doormat. I suspect both parties contributed to their problems.

Of course she contributed to the problems. It always takes two to tango. Poisoning her was a bit OTT though

I am all for Men's Rights, but there is something unsettling about having to support someone who actually wanted to have you killed, cheated on you...etc.

That is why I say, lets make Prenup Mandatory, with clauses detailing who gets what in case the one party starts cheating, or doing crazy shytte. Community of Property should just be outlawed, qha ke.

He said that while he accepted their marriage was over, this did not warrant his wife "to cast me out and leave me destitute. I have no means to support myself," he said.

You cannot help but fall in love with South Africa. A land full of diversiy. Prostitutes, thugs, criminals, fraudsters, murderers and racists all roam our streets disguised as human beings. He derserves a little bit more than that. Isn't there a woman on here who is willing to help the gentleman (of which is is more than one) to get through winter. It is getting colder and we sure can do with a two-legged blanket to get us through the depressing mercury readings. Destitude. What happened to the 'almost' procured poison? I am sure I can use it as a midicinal cure somewhere in my home.

It is unfair Vino, as sad as this case is you are now feeling how grossly unfair the Family Court is. They make decisions that boggle the mind, for a change a woman is on the receiving end.

A very good point, one that never gets raised when it is the man who is ordered to pay maintenance.

I am afraid filing for a divorce means they have to split the assets and in this case it looks like the husband is going to benefit a lot irrespective of the attempted murder which by the way does not invalidate the fact they married in community of property.

I am not condoning attempted murder but the shoe is on the other foot now and women are complaining, why?

Well that's for the court to decide and if you refuse to pay it is prison that is going to bite you, not him.

It boils down to sharing your collective assets if you are married in community of property, his actions cannot invalidate that claim.

Fact is Family Court is used to settle scores, they follow the latter to the tee and they do not consider other material facts. This time the law is working in the men's favour for a change however reprehensible the circumstances are.

Innocent until proven guilty, so let the woman support her 'husband'. According to the law, David is still the her hubby.
