Govt to appeal e-Tolling order
Government remains committed to e-tolling and will appeal the High Court in Pretoria's interim order halting the implementation of the system in Gauteng, spokesman Jimmy Manyi said.
"Cabinet has taken a decision to appeal the interim order to stop the e-tolling," Manyi told a fortnightly post-Cabinet briefing.
He said the government only received a written copy of Judge Bill Prinsloo's April 28 judgment late on Wednesday.
"As we are sitting here, our lawyers are studying the judgment and will advise the executive in due course."
He added: "Cabinet reiterated its commitment to the user pays principle and its decision on e-tolling as an efficient mechanism of collection."
Manyi said Cabinet also made plain it would not allow the embattled SA National Roads Agency Ltd to default on the debt it incurred to complete the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).
"As a country we need to demonstrate unequivocal commitment to meet all our contractual obligations, including repaying the debt incurred in the construction of GFIP. Defaulting on our debt is simply not an option."

Thank zuma for once again displaying your foolishness and ignorance by hiring 1diots like manyi to insult us the voting public by displaying arrogance like this. the etoll issue will go down in histroy as one of zumas' biggest bungles in his era. although it was planned before his time, there could have been a billion ways to entice the public to bu.y into the etoll solution. but noooo we the middle class are treated like stupids and we are told. the tolls are here to stay weather you like it or notwell i only got two words for you ANC stooges. f--k you

manyi how much and what you owe sanral has nothin to do with the public. if i remember correctly the road improvements where part of 2010 world cup project. why do you make it as if it's been planned to minimize trafic jam on high ways? you want people to pay whereas the very same road is not finished. ANC thinks they are clever than the publicReport Abuse

What a waist of time and money for the goverment to appeal the interim oder. We should be finding ways on how to finance the etoill project rather than go on long court proceeding that might cost the goverment more taxpayers money. I am begining to dout very siriously the people in goverment most especilly the transport department. Are this people really capable of running that department. We should start electing our polititians based on merit, qualification and moral values. There is a public outcry about etoll but yet the transport department still choose to force the issue down the citizens throwt. The public is willing to negotiate for a better way of financin the project but yet the goverment opt to force the public for the unwanted option instead. You ask yourself on how they came to the conclusion of implementin the project without proper consultation.
