THE Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has rejected calls by passenger associations for it to refrain from stopping taxis when they are ferrying commuters to work.

There is no sense in this whole thing. These guys have realised that the government is too linient towards them, now they want to take advantage of that. If they want to use the reavaya routes what if they get conjested? it means they can always come back to the other routes, and whats then the point? You give them the hand they want the whole arm. Right now they were given grace on e-tolling but they want more. Report Abuse

Who would really take a day off to toy toy on the street on behalf on taxi warlords? The people that we saw on the news carrying cards and toy toying, are they really employed? or our grannies and unemployed people who claim to use taxis daily were used?.
No car moving on any South African road/ground is immune to be stopped and searched if there is a reason or need for that. Report Abuse

We are all for the right to freedom of speech and protest action but we also have an obligation to think through our actions before embarrassing ourselves. Who the hell are these people and shouldn't they be fighting for consumer rights?
I think taxi owners got family members to form this organisation so they masquerade as "commuters". What a joke this is.
To answer your question, I did not sanction or orginise this march DA. I suggest you ask the journalist to give you contact numbers of the orginiser(s) so you can pose your question to the right person.
taxis dont give anyone space to drive i dont know whether they are the one paying tax they have all the freedom on the or let me say they own the road now they want to own jmpd thats bullshit Report Abuse

On the note of stopping them during peak hours, that's unrealistic.... However, about the usage of the so called bus lanes, they have a point. If you know Soweto then you will know that Pat Mbatha road, was originally constructed in the late 80s so as to ease the flow of traffic and was originally meant for public transport users, Taxis and Buses, today, that's not the case, that rout is being privatised by the so called state officials, and government vehicles, Is that not a bus lane? As if it was, then why are Putco and Metro buses also not allowed to use the rout, they are buses, aren't they? Some one stands to gain from this Rea Vaya and its definitely not the Public...... When Rea-Vaya was introduced bane ba hlanya (against) now they want to use those lanes.
Taxi industry has been there for as long as I can recall, but they never asked Goverment to make special lanes for them. For the other demands, they are crazy. Report Abuse
As I said, Pat Mbatha road was constructed for all public transport users, Buses and Taxis, so why only now the rout is only being used by a few? Report Abuse

Imagine a row of taxis offloading in front of a BRT bus which is supposed to be rapid. The chaos will only serve to defeat the very purpose of establishing the BRT. What are these people thinking. This is not about the passengers but about them making extra money for the sock (imali yesokisi). Omageza!!!! Report Abuse
