Police in New York say that if you tackle small crimes, you prevent bigger ones from happening. That's why we should stop overlooking the increasing number of vehicles on our roads that do not have back licence plates..

In the most innocent explanation, it's because the motorist wants to avoid getting a speeding ticket, or not get caught when habitually driving through a red traffic light. This is against the law and contributes towards the lawlessness on our roads, which is dangerous for every commuter.

In the scariest interpretation, it could be a stolen vehicle being driven by armed robbers. That's not just criminal, it could also cost a human life.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

We, the people of this land, need to report drivers of cars with no licence plates.

Cops - Metro and SAPS - must summarily take them off the road, immediately they are spotted.

The owners must then have to pay a punitive fine to get their vehicle back.

There are plenty of them in SA roads, some with wrong licence plates and the cops do nothing at all, as they themselves drive cars with wrong number plates, Corrupt city.

On the 23rd April 2012, Sanral did a 'test' to check the e-toll system. Within the relatively short test period, two cars and a motorbike went through the gantry with the same licence plate number, If your licence number is BB65PN GP - you have a problem.

Took me about a year to get the cops to accept that a car in Joburg was using cloned plates and it wasn't my car. They finally got the car and promptly phoned me to come collect it. Maybe I should have!

Normally the cars that would not have registration numbers are high speed cars, mainly to run away from fines or to commit crime.

A very heavy fine must be meted to those who would be found not complying.

The spokesperson of Sol Plaatjie Municipality in Kimberley is driving his red-like BMW M3 without the front one. It has now become a habitual act of driving BMWs without it in the front. I will refuse to be ticketed for any other traffic violation such as exceeding speed, no tail lights or any another small infringement until they give him a ticket.
