Grandmother catches man raping mentally ill child

An Eastern Cape man has been arrested following the rape of a 15-year-old mentally ill girl at Lurwayizo village near Willowvale, police said.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the the teenager's grandmother caught the 20-year-old man in the act on Thursday.

"The grandmother found the girl, who is believed to be mentally challenged, in a stock kraal, where the man was busy raping her."

The grandmother took a stick and beat him. He ran away, but was later arrested and charged with rape. He was expected to appear in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Monday.
