Robbers help themselves to three cash boxes
ARMED robbers have made off with three boxes containing an undisclosed amount of money, Polokwane police said.
Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said a cash-in-transit heist took place at a popular filling station downtown between 11am and midday yesterday.
He said four men overpowered Coin Security guards who had just fetched the cash boxes and were about to load them onto the security vehicle.
Ngoepe said the robbers fled in a silver grey Audi station-wagon with Gauteng registration numbers.
"While the robbers were fleeing, the security guards tried to fire shots at them but it was already too late," he said.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Ngoepe said a search for the robbers had been launched and urged members of the public who might have information about the incident to contact police on 082-565-8073.
Meanwhile, the six men arrested in connection with suspicion of human trafficking appeared briefly in the Musina Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The men were not asked to plead and their case was postponed to May 14, pending further police investigations. The men were identified as Fafidali Ali, 36, Aschaldi Alimo, 27, Malgesku Store, 29, Mandeni Sorach, 22, Eshgu Shesr, 26, and Keede Alimo, 34.
Police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said each men faced 47 charges of kidnapping.
He said the accused would remain in custody until their next court appearance. - frankm@sowetan.co.za

We are becoming more and more accustomed to crime such that instead of us condeming the criminals and perpetrators of violence, we resort to blaming specific areas.I mean only the naive and stupid will argue that these kind of crimes are committed in Limpopo only. This type of mentality and naiveity does not help any cause.......Crime does not know any colour, race, area, age et al.Report Abuse
