"The suspected thieves were apprehended by the students and were badly assaulted," he said. About 100 students beat them with sticks, stones and other weapons.

Love it!!
Give the criminals a good hiding but PLEASE refrain from damaging ambulances and varsity property for any reason.
The country lacks resources as it is!!
Criminals we have an abundance of, so sort them out with a good hiding and maybe they'll think twice before committing the next crime!

MsKInky; Mob "justice" can never be right. Police must do their jobs properly and people need to turn such things over to the police. If this is how our budding professionals behave, our country will go down the tubes even faster than it is with the help of our thieving leaders.

We need to get out of this mob-justice mindset as soon as possble. One would like to assume that people attending a university are aspiring to become decent members of society and have some sort of moral compass. Yet these "future leaders" behaviour is no different from a bunch of thugs. I am in no way cndoning the theft of whatever it was, but we are supposed to be a civilised nation. I AM DISGUSTED!

Im 100% behind this.Too many rapes and murder cases are reported affecting the university students, but no reports of arrests whatsoever have been made and yet the people are expected not to take matters into their own hands? If this is what needs to be done .then so be it.Because even if the people are somehow arrested, the punishment is never harsher enough to make sure they never repeat the same again.SA Law is just too too lenient, thats why so many evil things are happening here, children getting raped or gang raped, killings everywhere etc etc.I hope this sends a very strong message to this evil people out there. Our brothers and sisters are supposed to be there studying out of fear, but instead they living fearful lives. They can"t even walk freely on the streets anymore.Enough is enough!!!!

It took eight of them to rob one kid of his cellphone - and they could not even run. How much danger were they to society anyway. If the students are in a murderous mood they should pick on real criminals. Maybe the SAPS could offload one or two at the campus now and then.

@ Pointman how is a female student to defend herself against 6men? I am of the view that whatever happened on campus is a manifestation of a series of events, rapes outside and within campus, last week tuesday morning a classmate of mine wass stabbed to death after exiting the campus from the library....a meeting by the student was held to ask for beefed up security and police patrols outside of the campus like they do in hatfield pta....search this sowetan websites for reports on the university of limpopo and you'll see how bad the police drag their feet and how every criminal has targeted us....

Job well done. you deserve a big tank of bells.Do it again maybe the police will take you serious this time. When innocent girls were gang-raped and murdered (this year) no one made noise, it was one of those things. Do anything in you power to make you community safe. You have a right to walk freely in you campus. The police and politicians are useless. DO It For Your Safety, Freedom and Peace of mind. Leave no room for criminals in you campus. To hell with criminals and those that protect them.

I read and understood the rules before I signed up. Yes my words will be limited BUT how do you just mislead people like that Sowetan? That is incompetence and unreliability at its best, ge le sa nyake go bereka tlogelang, rather than to distort and manipulate the true events of May the 3rd at UNIVERSITY OF LIMPOPO TURFLOOP CAMPUS in MANKWENG!
I'm fighting an urge to regurgitate as I type this!!!

Anyhow, how did those thugs access entrance, linger and bully, mxm please scratch that (bully), and torment students inside the perimeters of a learning institution for so many hours without the without consent of security?
It is with this fortunate and unfortunate event amongst other events that occurred around the University, which might speed up services demanded by students to the University management (change or improve security personnel) and the request of constant Police patrol around the University at all times!

Let's hope this inhumane behaviour is never again triggered in this Great University of Limpopo! EACH 1 PROTECT 1...
