Police are searching for a woman who abandoned her one-day-old baby on a house doorstep in Zola, Soweto, Gauteng police said.
"We don't know who might have dropped the child off on the doorstep," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
"The child was taken to a doctor for treatment and later taken to a place of safety."
The person who found the child late Sunday evening did not know the baby's mother and reported the incident to police, said Makhubela.
Police had opened a case of child abandonment.
