Yavisth Seebadri, of Greytown High School in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, died in Pietermaritzburg's Grey's Hospital yesterday morning after he collapsed while standing next to a scrum during a match at Carter High School on Tuesday afternoon.

"We still do not know how my son died. I can't understand it. He was not sick. But there was so much blood when I saw him because they had just removed the ventilator when I saw him," mother Sindy Radebe said yesterday.

She is hoping the postmortem would shed more light.

Her son attended the boarding school during the week. His weekends were spent with his family in their Tongaat home on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.

When contacted for comment, the school's receptionist, who did not give her name, said: "The school is not ready to comment."

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the under-14 rugby player was rushed to hospital around 5pm on Tuesday after he collapsed during a game in Pietermaritzburg.

The provincial department of education expressed shock after learning of the boy's death.

You grief is understood and may you receive strength through this difficult time. Just take into consideration that rugby is a full contact sport and these things happen. it is doubtful if anybody can be blamed. A few weeks ago a professional soccer player also died on the pitch. However, all of the best.

You are so very comforting, thou its difficult for a mum to loose a baby but its true Rugby is very physical and wudnt know what was the cos of passing. May his soul rest in peace and the family find comfort from God.
