Granny called cops to arrest teenager
Grandson was accused of raping another girl on the same day
A Gingindlovu grandmother called the police to arrest her teenage grandson for the rape of an eight-year-old girl, The Witness newspaper reported on Thursday.
The girl’s left eye was gouged out in the brutal attack in KwaZulu-Natal.
“We spoke to the girl’s family and I was there when she was taken to hospital. We are horrified by this incident,” she told the publication.
The woman cannot be named to protect the identity of the child suspect.
She said her grandson was accused of raping another girl on the same day, and she reprimanded him.
“We did not reprimand him the second time because we feared he would run away like he did when the first family came to our house. We called the police...”
The 15-year-old appeared in the local magistrate’s court on Wednesday and was released into the custody of a guardian.
His grandmother blamed evil spirits for the change in him.
During the Easter weekend, he had allegedly experienced visions of a man commanding him to commit evil deeds, she said.
“We prayed for him at the time that he would no longer dream of this evil man. I believe evil spirits led him to do what he did,” she said.
The victim was taken to Ngwelezane Hospital where she is in a serious but stable condition.
