I would argue that actually, the causes you speak of / suggest are not really that strong. It almost always come down to one cause: Female infidelity (Or suspicion thereof). Maybe also to a lesser extent failure to provide (Not that the woman makes more money).
Lets, for arguments sake, assume that you are correct and it is the females infidelity. What tools does the average SA man have to deal with that? Does he know from watching his parents that walking away and cooling down is a good idea? Does he know from watching others in his life that 'this too shall pass'? Does he even know that the woman has an option to walk away from him?

Of course I'm not blaming them for having the tools. Conflict resolution within a relationship is a learned behaviour. In many homes, the youngsters see their parents having a disagreement and they see them resolving it without resorting to violence, making up or splitting up. Those kids now have the tools to do the same one day. If mommy has a string of boyfriends and conflict is resolved by a smart slap and a new 'uncle' next week - they are hardly in a position to be any good at handling any conflict in their own future relationships.
