A man was injured when his Nissan Champ bakkie fell into a sinkhole on Tuesday morning, on the corners of Voortrekker Road and Quality Street in Durban, paramedics said.
ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said that when paramedics arrived on the scene they found the bakkie with only its rear on the tarmac.
“The driver managed to get out of his vehicle — he sustained several injuries and was later transported to Wentworth Hospital,” said Vermaak.
According to bystanders the sinkhole developed late on Monday afternoon and was not properly cordoned off.
It appeared as if it filled with water during the night - making it difficult to see.
The man was on his way to work when the incident happened.

In Mpumalanga they normally put a donkey in the hole so you are warned when you see the ears sticking up. I recon they could have put a giraffe in that one and still have needed a crate for it to stand onReport Abuse
